A World's Idea

A World's Idea

WEYA or World Event Young Artists, was a festival that brought 1000 young artist from 100 countries to Nottingham for 10 days. Ben sent out a brief to a number of artists from each country, in advance of the festival, to ask them to send in an image, video or sound of something that inspires them. Ben wanted to explore the journey of how an idea develops from one thought to the next; but instead of one person's thought process - this was 'A World's Idea'. Ben took the footage (many different formats) and edited a timeline. He then created some extra footage and inter-spliced those elements to try to evoke a sense of a logical thought progression. Ben then wrote the poetry and asked 12 different artists to read the voice over. He created the musical soundscape with sound engineer Itamar Rosenblum and the footage was wrangled and organised into a manageable form and format by assistant editor Jem Talbot. It was shown on loop on a main cinema screen at the Broadway Cinema, Nottingham throughout the festival.
